I haven't ever done one! A while back I thought I was going to get a chance to learn but it fell through. I think I might ask my next client, wherever she may be, if she wants to be my guinea pig!
They're pretty easy to make, but require A LOT of patience, and a willingness to do it more than once if it doesn't work the first time. When I was pregnant we tried three times before it worked. The first two times failed due to the use of expired plaster bandages. Finally we coated my belly with Vaseline, covered it in gauze squares from a medical supply store and then coated it with a generous layer of plaster from a craft store. Took patience to keep the gauze from bunching up, but it was worth it!
